The Fin Whale Eclipse Project Is Proud to Support the Société astronomique de France

The Fin Whale Eclipse Project is honoured to support the Société astronomique de France by supplying solar eclipse glasses for the August 12, 2026 solar eclipse.

This rare eclipse will be one of the most exciting astronomy events in Europe in years. In Spain, parts of the country will experience a total solar eclipse. In France, people across the country will witness a deep partial eclipse, with the Moon covering a significant portion of the Sun in the early evening sky.

For families, students, Scout groups, astronomy clubs, teachers, and communities, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to look up, learn, and experience the wonder of the sky together.

Helping France Prepare for August 12, 2026

The Société astronomique de France is helping people across France prepare for the eclipse through public education, astronomy information, observing guidance, and safe viewing resources.

This work is incredibly important. A solar eclipse is beautiful, but it also needs to be viewed safely. In France, because the eclipse will be partial, proper solar eclipse glasses will be needed throughout the entire event.

Even when most of the Sun is covered by the Moon, it is never safe to look directly at the Sun without certified solar protection.

That is why the Fin Whale Eclipse Project is so proud to supply solar eclipse glasses to support this important public astronomy effort.

Why Safe Eclipse Viewing Matters

Solar eclipses create unforgettable moments, but eye safety must always come first.

The Fin Whale Eclipse Project supplies solar eclipse glasses that meet the international safety standard for direct solar viewing. Our goal is to help more people experience the August 12, 2026 eclipse safely, especially young people who may be seeing an eclipse for the first time.

By working with respected astronomy organizations like the Société astronomique de France, we hope to help make safe eclipse viewing simple, accessible, and part of the public conversation leading up to the eclipse.

Youth, STEM, and International Collaboration

The Fin Whale Eclipse Project was founded by five young women from Ontario, Canada.

Our project connects the August 12, 2026 solar eclipse with:

  • safe eclipse viewing
  • youth STEM education
  • Scout and Guide participation
  • astronomy outreach
  • international collaboration
  • whale conservation

We believe this eclipse is more than a sky event. It is a chance to bring people together across countries and inspire curiosity about science, nature, and our shared planet.

From Canada to France, we are proud to be part of a growing international effort to help young people and families prepare for this extraordinary moment.

Connecting the Sky and the Ocean

The Fin Whale Eclipse Project is inspired by the path of the August 12, 2026 eclipse and the migration route of the fin whale, one of the largest animals on Earth.

By connecting a rare event in the sky with one of the ocean’s most magnificent species, our project encourages young people to think about both astronomy and conservation.

The eclipse gives us a reason to look up.

The fin whale reminds us to care about what is happening below the surface of our oceans.

Together, they create a powerful story about science, wonder, and responsibility.

A Shared Sky Between Canada and France

On August 12, 2026, people across France, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Europe will look up at the same sky.

Some will be watching from cities. Others from villages, camps, observatories, beaches, parks, or community events. Many young people will be experiencing a solar eclipse for the very first time.

We are honoured that the Fin Whale Eclipse Project can support the Société astronomique de France by supplying solar eclipse glasses for this important moment.

From Canada to France, we are proud to support safe eclipse viewing, youth science education, international friendship, and a shared sense of wonder for our sky, our oceans, and our planet.
